Tayak Lagoon, Caramoan

Like most regions in the Philippines, Camarines Sur offers a number of scenic islands that will satisfy the cravings of tourists who wish to enjoy a sunny beach with swaying coconut palms, sparkling white sand, and the sapphire water of the sea. For instance, the Malarad Island in  Caramoan offers a beautiful beach and lagoon that will mystify and provide plenty of enjoyment for tourists. But before we take a closer look at this fascinating attraction, let me first describe a lagoon since its a rare water feature.

A lagoon is a basically a body of shallow sea water or brackish water that is separated from the sea by some form of barrier. The barrier that separates the water from the sea can be a barrier beach, a sandbank or a coral reef. So a lagoon is sort of a swimming pool beside the sea that was created by nature. Now let us proceed with the reasons why you should visit and swim at the Tayak Lagoon in Malarad Island, Caramoan, Camarines Sur.

Fascinating Entrance to the Mysterious Lagoon: This amazing attraction has a mysterious aura because it cannot be easily accessed by those who wish to swim in its calm waters. One can reach it by swimming underneath the rocks on the side of the beach. Its located about a hundred meters from the shore and the water is salty since most of it comes from the sea.

Relaxing at the Calm Waters of the Tayak Lagoon: Since its separated by a barrier from the sea that surrounds the Malarad Island, the water from this lagoon is serene and peaceful. It doesn't have crashing waves and it's surrounded by a wall of limestone so the wind is limited to a cool breeze. The location is a good place to relax due to its enclosed atmosphere and the shade from the limestone walls that are lined with stunted trees and shrubs. One can relax and mediate  at the lagoon or simply wade on the cool waters.

Scenic Location for Photographs:  This hidden lagoon has a pristine beauty since its protected by a natural barrier and the Malarad Island has been preserved for the tourist industry. It's one of the destinations that are often included in tours of the attractions in Caramoan. The calm water combined with the huge limestone boulders that surrounded make the lagoon a great venue for photo shoots.

Diving at the Bottom of the Tayak Lagoon:  The peaceful waters of this lagoon hides a great dive site. The salty water feeds a thriving coral reef that supports a number of marine life for divers and snorkelers to enjoy. One will observe a vast coral garden with colorful fish and other types of sea creatures.

Swimming at the Tayak Beach: One can also enjoy the island's sunny beach while you visit this enchanting lagoon. This beach is only about a hundred meters away from the lagoon and features pebbled corals, which litter its shores. It's also a good spot for divers and snorkelers because of the broad coral formations that are near the shore.

How to get there:
To reach the peaceful and calm waters of the Tayak lagoon, one must first travel to Malarad Island in Caramoan, Camarines Sur. You should first travel to Naga City by taking a bus ride from Araneta-Cubao Bus Terminal or Pasay Bus Terminal. When you arrive at the Naga City Central Bus Terminal, look for Filcab vans that are headed for Sabang Port. Once you've arrived at the Sabang port, take the boats that ferry passengers to the Caramoan Guijalo Port. You can then make arrangements at Caramoan for a boat that can bring one to  Malarad Island. Another option would be to sign up for a tour of Caramoan's tourist attractions as they would usually include a visit to the famed lagoon.
